Letter from Vivien W. Rawlinson undated. Most of the letter concerns Dobbie's work on the appeal by the Van Diemen's land Company to the Privy Council. Rawlinson had nothing but praise for Dobbie's efforts, and suggested should the government's case fail, Dobbie ought to resign his post and commence private practice. The remainder of the letter deals with arranging to play golf, and dinner at Rawlinson's club the following Wednesday.

Hops likely to be a remunerative speculation as they had failed in England, but there was no blight in the Huon which was likely to be the future hop garden of Tasmania and he urged J . Waldie and Frank Tappes to try. His father had sent a load of hop sets to Victoria. Blyth had received the apple trees from Frank Tappes. His school was giving him a comfortable living - he had all the children of the neighbourhood except some of the very lowest and dirtiest he had got rid of and the Read children who had a governess.

Xerox copy of letter from Sir John Franklin in Hobart to Lady Franklin in South Australia with Governor Gawler :- New year wishes. The colony quiet and prosperous except for the squabbles of lawyers - refers to cases of Gilbert Robertson v. Thomas Mcdonald and Abbot, when Mr. Anstey was roughly handled by the
Attorney General - verdicts farthing in one case and for the defendants in the other. Mr. Jones directed to supervise criminal proceedings at quarter sessions but declined so the Executive Council had been summoned. Mr. Anstey also 'carrying on a correspondence with the Gov. respecting his office' and so Mr. Sorell appointed his successor. Sir John also refers to his proposed visit to Port Arthur, Mr. Henslowe to come in mid-January, Parker's lameness, Government House plans not yet drawn, gardener arrived, Archdeacon Jefferies.
