Diary of Rev. Robert Knopwood dated 1 January 1805 to 17 July 1808. The diary is headed 'Revd. Robert Knopwood, Chaplain, Hobart Town, Derwent River, Van Diemens Land'. It begins on Tuesday 1 January 1805, noting 'a general muster of all the prisoners in the colony it being New Years Day'. It is written in a neat hand, some words being abbreviated. Knopwood notes, for example, dining with the Governor and others , visiting the Government Farm, kangaroo shooting, fishing, the shortage of provisions in the colony, the weather, the arrival and departure of ships, occasionally christenings, etc. etc.
Some pages have been cut out leaving only the date (probably by R.K.)

Bound in its original limp vellum wrappers; remains of two ties of the same. Fine title page; on the verso the author’s portrait; woodcuts showing surveying at pp. 162 and 164.
Inside the front cover is written ‘1560 Francoforti I. A. à S’. On the verso of the last leaf of text (Cciii) and the following flyleaf are herbal remedies in German, signed ‘Frater Mercurius ordinis S. Basilii in Monte Sinai uel S. Catharina co(mmun)icabat Praga Anno 1570.’ The same hand has annotated the text. On the verso of the first flyleaf is ‘Duplum Bibliothecae regiae Monacensis’, 18th-cent. From the Library of Christ College; given by Rev. R.R. Davies in 1852.

The Cradle Mountain-Lake St Clair area was declared a scenic reserve in 1922, a wildlife reserve in 1927, a national park in 1947 and a world heritage area from 1982.

Grant dated 18 December 1805 to Henry Hayes of 100 acres on the Derwent to be known as Henrietta Farm, to be held for five years free of taxes, rents etc. but timber suitable for naval purposes was to be reserved for the use of the Crown.

Largebaan & Kenmore Estates

Estate accounts dated June 1822 to 31 December 1831. Day book recording daily notes of work and expenditure relating to the Largebaan (Largiebann) estate, which merged on 26 May 1827 with the Kenmore property (Macquarie Plains, Upper Derwent).

It includes such notes as: 'brought in yesterday from Mr. Parkers, 4 MB wethers, of which killed and sent to Mr Spodes one W. 40t lb (Nov. 1825); 'R. Mather dr. to Lar~ebaan £12 • 12 ' (Feb. 1825); 'Commenced ploughing' (21 Feb. 1825); sent Mr Knopwood a sucking pig on 18th' (21 Feb. 1325); Also sundries, such as boots, 2 doz cups & saucers, 1 sheep shears at 6/-, 2 pairs shoes for Mrs Ballantine, Charles Burns a pocket knife' (sums of money were not always entered).
Also references to 'constableship'.

At the back of the volume were entered journals of sheep owned by various people, including: James Robertson, Miss H. Ballentine, Miss H. P. Ballentine, Joseph Ballentine, Nelly Miller; noting marks, numbers of lambs, ewes, (gifts from D.B., Mr Downie & others).

This volume was probably kept by Duncan Ballantine, chief district
constable and pound keeper at New Norfolk, who received a grant of land in the Derwent Valley above New Norfolk.

Press cuttings regarding the launching of the ketch Marina built by Wilson Brothers for for H. Jones and Co. for the timber trade, The Marina is an auxiliary ketch of the following dimensions: - Length overall, 100ft.; extreme breadth, 23ft. 6 in.; depth of hold, 7 ft. 6 in.; gross tonnage, 100 tons; displacement when loaded, about 280 tons. She will be powered by a 70 h.p. Diesel engine by Ruston
Lister, which will be installed after the vessel reaches Hobart. When put into commission she will be employed by H.Jones and Co. Pty. Ltd. in the timber trade between Launceston and Mel- bourne, freighting timber from the firm's Warrentinna mill to Melbourne,
and carrying general cargo as back freight. The Mercury Tuesday 18 December 1934.
